If the battery charging lead-acid, remain within the parameters set by the manufacturer of the battery.
There is nothing wrong with the substance with a switching power supply for this task, but you have to control the load current and load voltage, to get the most out of your lead-acid battery acid.
Otherwise, you get a battery that does not work as expected, and can not help early in their lives.
