I have a temporary license and my birth certificate, and even a student ID card. Is there a material that works?

It depends on your location .... If a college town .... tend to be stricter and custom, but other than a state ID ... Other places can be a birth certificate and photo identification ... Pass also be generally accepted. I have about 6 months without a passport in a university town and has in the bars with my social security card, birth certificate was, and (photo) Student Card ... as I said .... It all depends on what kind of town, and what kind of bar where you want to go. Good luck and happy drinking!
I think the temperature of British Columbia, perhaps in conjunction with another photo ID (but you really drink your birth certificate?) Take the passport is the best option of a second. But of course you can always refuse to serve, because they rely on the documentation.
